2012 ELECTION DATES

The following election will be conducted in 2012 in Oronoko Charter Township:
 
 
February 28, 2012
Presidential Primary. (Close of Registration for this Election is January 30, 2012.)
 
 
May 8, 2012
Berrien Springs Oronoko Township Police Millage Renewal. (Close of Registration for this Election is April 9, 2012.)
 
 
August 7, 2012
General Primary Election. (Close of Registration for this Election is July 9, 2012.)
 
 
November 6, 2012
General/Presidential Election. School Board Elections. (Close of Registration for this Election is October 9, 2012.)


Oronoko Charter Township Polling Locations:
 
Precinct No. 1       Oronoko Charter Township Hall; 4583 E Snow Road
 
Precinct No. 2       Berrien Springs Community Library; 215 W Union
 
Precinct No. 3       Berrien County Youth Fair, Memorial Building; 9122 US Hwy 31
 
Election Day Hours:      All Polls are Open from 7:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M.


Register to Vote
 
    You can register to vote if you are:
     
  • A citizen of the United States of America
  • 18 years of age on or before the date of the election at which you seek to vote
  • A Michigan resident for at least 30 days before the election
  • Registered to vote on or before the close of registration at the election at which you seek to vote. (The close of registration is 30 days before the date of the election.)

    You may register to vote at:
     
  • The Secretary of State's office
  • The Berrien County Clerk's office
  • The Township Clerk's office
  • By mail through the Secretary of State's office

Election Inspectors
 
Oronoko Charter Township is always looking for qualified people to work at the polls on Election Day.
 
If you are a registered voter and you are interested in becoming an Election Day Precinct Inspector, you may work in any city or township in the county where you reside.
 
Michigan state law requires all precinct inspectors to be trained every two years. This training is conducted by the Berrien County Clerk. Supplemental information is given by the local Oronoko Charter Township's Clerk.

Absentee Ballots
Who can apply?
 
    You may vote by Absentee Ballot if you can check any one of the following criterion:
     
  • I am 60 years of age or older.
  • I expect to be absent from the community in which I am registered for the entire time the polls are open on Election Day.
  • I am physically unable to attend the polls without the assistance of another.
  • I cannot attend the polls because of the tenets of my religion.
  • I have been appointed an election precinct inspector in a precinct other than the precinct where I reside.
  • I cannot attend the polls because I am confined in jail awaiting arraignment or trial.

    To Apply for an Absentee Ballot:
     
  • You must make your request in writing to the Township Clerk either by:
    • Filling out the Application for Absent Voter Ballot
    • Writing out your request and give the following information: (You may mail your written request to the Township Office or fax it to the office.)
      • stating that you are a registered in Oronoko Charter Township
      • list your home address where you are registered to vote
      • state one of the statutory reasons (one of those listed above)
      • give the address where your absentee ballot is to be mailed
      • sign your request.
  • Verbal requests cannot be honored.

    When to Apply:
     
  • Applications can be accepted no sooner than 75 days preceding the election.
  • Applications must be made for each election; with the exception of the August Primary Elections AND the November General Elections. For this exception one application will suffice for both elections.
  • Those registered voters who are 60 years old or older may request in writing to be placed on a permanent Absentee Voter List. In this case, you will routinely be mailed an Application before every election.

    When You Move or Change Your Name:
     
    If you change your address within a community, please notify the local clerk. You may also change your address at any Secretary of State Branch office.
